Home Health

Essex County Home Health Unit is a Certified Home Health Agency (CHHA) that operates under Essex County Health Department.

We provide skilled services to patients  who are recovering from illness and injury.  Our home visits include education for patients and caregivers about wound care, diseases, medications, and preventing future occurrences.

Based on individual needs, services include:

  • Skilled Nursing
  • Physical Therapy
  • Speech Therapy
  • Occupation Therapy
  • Home Health Aide

Receiving Services

Services are available to any resident in Essex county.  All patients need a physician to establish a plan of care, sign orders for treatments and services, and provide oversight for patient home care.   The types and duration of home care services depend on the patient’s need and their provider’s care plan.  We can receive referrals from physician offices, hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, etc.

Use the Medicare.gov Home Health Compare site to see how our services compare with other service providers in the area.

Home Health Aid Services

Home Health Aide services may be available after the nurse or therapist has made an initial evaluation and has determined that the patient needs assistance with personal care and/or assistance with the home exercise program established by the therapist.  Aide services are subject to availability  of an aide.  Essex County Certified Home Health Agency coordinates this care with a Contracting Aide Agency (not part of Essex County’s Certified Home Health Agency).  Home health aide hours vary according to need and the availability of an aide.

Paying for Services

Patients are asked to provide the CHHA with insurance information so we may bill for services.  We accept payment from various sources, such as:

  • Medicare
  • Medicaid
  • Veterans
  • Blue Cross/Blue Shield
  • Worker’s Compensation
  • NYS Empire
  • Other insurance carriers
  • Self Pay

Medicare, and many of the private insurances, will cover services in full based on the assessed need for skilled services.  However Traditional Medicare, Medicare replacement policies and most other private insurances require a patient to be homebound in order to pay for home health care services.

Patients that do not have insurance are billed on a sliding fee schedule based on income and provided with a referral to insurance enrollment assistance.

We can now accept payment with GovPayNet – so you can swipe your debit or credit card here at our office or pay online.

Before you pay with GovPayNet we advise you to read the 2017 GovPayNet Fee Schedule and 2017 GovPayNet Terms of Service.
