*** IMPORTANT NOTICE ***
On Friday, Feb. 13th at 2pm, the NYS DMV system will shut down statewide for
a massive upgrade. This shutdown is expected to last through Tuesday, Feb.
17th. DMV offices, online services, and the call center will be down during this
time. If the upgrade goes according to plan, services will be restored by
Wednesday, Feb. 18th for regular business hours.
To ensure our customers can complete their DMV transactions before the
shutdown, the Essex County DMV will be open 2 extra hours on Wednesday,
Feb. 11th & Thursday, Feb. 12th, and we will remain open until 2pm on Friday,
Feb. 13th. Please take advantage of these hours and do not put off
completing your important DMV transactions.
Your patience, both during the shutdown and while we navigate through the
new system once it’s up and running, is greatly appreciated!
Did you know many DMV transactions can be done online? And, as of January 2024, Essex County retains the same revenue whether you do your transaction in-person at our DMV Offices or online. Save yourself time and travel by doing it online!
